We present a brief report on the status of viral safety of plasma derived factor concentrates (pd-CF), especially von Willebrand factor (VWF), in the 21st century. We also present the results of the efforts of the manufacturers and the close observation of guidelines to produce plasma factor concentrates. These efforts and continuous monitoring of these processes allow us to reach a level of safety never achieved before. We remark that this continuous process is necessary to guarantee the safety of a product such as plasma, increasingly necessary in different areas of medicine, focusing on plasma concentrates of VWF (pdVWF). This control is need for products obtained by biotechnology, for which there is less experience.
